This spring, we are excited to introduce screenings of international films with English subtitles every so often. We welcome all those who may not feel at home in the Dutch language but still crave the allure of international arthouse films. Dive into a cinematic world where English isn't the only language spoken; savor the flavors of for example French, Portuguese, Japanese or Iranian cinema.
Our goal is to make high-quality cinema accessible to a wider audience, breaking down language barriers along the way. So join us, and let the magic of global cinema captivate you!
About the film
Based on the memoirs of Marcelo Rubens Paiva, ‘I’m Still Here' tells the true story of the disappearance of his father, former congressman Rubens Paiva, during Brazil’s military dictatorship in the 1970s. The lives of Rubens Paiva’s wife, Eunice (Fernanda Torres), and their five children are abruptly—and permanently—altered after his disappearance. Eunice is imprisoned and pressured by the regime to betray her friends and family. When she is released 12 days later, she dedicates herself to resisting the corrupt regime and fighting for the rights of thousands of innocent citizens who disappeared, along with their families.
Director Walter Salles ('Central Station', ‘The Motorcycle Diaries’, ‘On the Road’) returns to fiction filmmaking after a long hiatus, delivering a powerful portrait of resilience. With this film, he makes his first feature in his home country of Brazil in 16 years. 'I’m Still Here' premiered at the Venice Film Festival and won the Oscar for Best International Feature Film.
